Corvina Consortvocal and instrumental ensemble considers its duty to familiarize the people of today with the music of the past. The repertoire of the ensemble comprises of five centuries of church and secular as well as vocal and instrumental music. Its members are young artists who regularly perform with other significant early music ensembles at home and abroad. They are the participants of several radio, television, and CD recordings. Their first two CD’s are from a concert series featuring the works of Orlando di Lasso. Numerous international critiques appeared about them. Their CD entitled OFFICIUM DEFUNCTORUM won the CHOC Award of the Parisian newspaper, Le Monde de la Musique in October, 1999.
Their CDs released by Hungaroton in 2001 and 2004 including Pierre de la Rue: CHANSONS from the Album of Marguerite of Austria - Hungaroton Classic, HCD 32018 and Claude Le Jeune: Airs & Pseaumes - Hungaroton Classic, 2004 HCD 32189, also received great reviews.
According to the evaluation of medieval.org, they appeared in the top 10 CD’s edited in 2001 and 2004.
The ensemble released its 5th CD in 2005 where they perform the sung verses of Bálint Balassi, a Hungarian Renaissance poet.
They released two further CD’s in 2006 entitled: Sacred Music of Medieval Hungary up to the Age of King Matthias – Hungarian Culture Publisher, HCD 324; Salamone Rossi: The Songs of Solomon – Sacred vocal works in Hebrew – Hungaroton Classic, HCD 32350.
Corvina Consort premièred at the international concert podium in the summer of 2000. They were invited to “Uckermärkische Musikwoche” in Germany. In 2002, they performed at the Hungarian Year in Italy. They are recurring guests at the Festival van Vlaanderen in Antwerp (2000, 2005) as well as at the Csíkszereda Early Music Festival (2004, 2005).
Their first overseas tour was in Canada in 2006. They performed with great success at the Festival des musiques sacrées de Québec as well as at several other venues in Toronto.
This year they performed within the XXXVII. Albert Szenci Molnár Days in Slovakia. Beyond their international success, they also have an important role in the Hungarian concert scene. The most outstanding amongst their work are the three thematic concert series which mostly determine their ten-year work.
